And, we are six years old!
Hello!
On this day six years ago, English at Work was officially founded. (Happy Birthday to us!!) We conducted our first class in a back room at Guero’s Taco Bar and since then have have served over 500 local workers in 39 classes at 28 businesses in the service, healthcare, and construction industries. Our greatest growth has been between 2009 and 2010 alone. As seen below, we have nearly doubled in all categories.
In 2011, we hope to reach 400 more students and are well on track to reaching our goal. As of March 2011 (April numbers have yet to be calculated), we have served 105 students in 15 classes at 12 partner businesses and organizations. In the past few weeks, we have also begun new classes at Seton Brackenridge (this is our 2nd class at this location with a whole new group of students!), Seton Hays, and Habitat Suites. And in the next few weeks, we will also begin classes at St. David’s South, Seton Southwest, Seton Shoal Creek, and Seton Dell Children’s. It’s been a busy few months here at English at Work!
None of this would be possible without our hard-working instructors, incredibly essential classroom volunteers, and without you – the generous English at Work community. So on this very special day, we ask you to consider investing in a world where language improves opportunity for all.
Our goal for our May birthday month is to raise $1,000. If our goal is met, we can provide 40 hours of instruction (about two courses) for 25 students or provide all materials including coursebooks for over 50 students. Every gift counts.
So, let’s do it! We have 28 days to reach $1,000!
