Class Update: New Era Portfolio

Congratulations are in order for the employees at New Era Portfolio who completed their second course with English at Work yesterday morning.

During the Workplace Communication course, 24 employees studied language related to efficient communication in the work area. The production floor at New Era is busy from 7 am to 5 pm (or later!) with printing, framing, and packaging artwork. Needless to say, giving clear instructions and asking clarifying questions are an essential part of maintaining efficiency between work areas.

A number of lessons in the most recent course emphasized ways to ask for and give work-related information. Today, instructor Michele Arnett and E@W intern Jennifer King, got their students warmed up with a review activity of workplace objects. Here’s what folks from Framing, Shipping, and Quality Control highlighted as the most important objects they need to complete specific tasks at New Era Portfolio.

What do you need to ________________?

Framing: What do you need to make frames?

  • Wood
  • Glass
  • Staple guns

Quality Control: What do you need to inspect orders?

  • Tape measures
  • Alcohol (for cleaning glass and removing drops of acrylic paint - not drinking on the job!)

Shipping: What do you need to ship completed orders?

  • Bubble wrap
  • Boxes

Well done, New Era employees!

New Era Portfolio Class

Thank you, Raymond Munk, for taking a break from supervising to get in on a few rounds of the speed interview activity. And, thank you to Michele and Jennifer, for your ever-engaging instruction and for bringing such lively support to the class. We’re so proud of the team over at New Era.

More good news from New Era:
A whopping eight students had perfect attendance in the 6-week Workplace Communication course. Another eight attended all but one class session. We’re thrilled to see so many of our students maintaining near-perfect attendance.

Way to go!
